Eating Out on East and West coasts of Mauritius

The East coast consists of Belle Mare, Palmar and the beautiful fisherman village of Trou D'eau Douce. All these areas have a large selection of cafes, restaurants and good bars selling food, for all tastes and budgets.

The full selection can be viewed on Tripadvisor, but I have shared some of my personal favourites.

5 to 10 minutes Drive from Villa Bella 1 & 2

Beny restaurant -

Right in the centre of Belle Mare village, Beny Restaurant is a cosy escape from the big hotel scene. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at home — friendly people, tasty food, and a relaxed vibe that makes it perfect for families.

The menu is wonderfully diverse: Chinese, Indian, fresh seafood (including lobster and impressive platters), plus comforting Mauritian classics. There’s even a kids’ corner, making it ideal for a laid‑back family meal.

If you’re nearby, don’t miss the chance to stop in. It’s a simple, genuine, and delicious slice of local life.

Chinese Gourmet restaurant -

Hidden in a cosy corner off a side street, this welcoming little restaurant is a favourite among visitors to Belle Mare. The dishes are delicious, the atmosphere relaxed, and vegetarians will find plenty to enjoy. If you’re staying at Lux Belle Mare, it’s only a short stroll away — perfect for a relaxed meal outside the hotel scene.

Mamie Sophie Table D'Hote -

At Camp Marcelin in Quatre Cocos, Table d’Hôte Chez Mamie Sophie serves fine cuisine in a cosy, intimate space that feels wonderfully local. It’s the perfect spot to discover traditional Mauritian dishes made by the community, with flavours that are vibrant, comforting, and beautifully prepared.

The seafood and curries are especially tasty, and the stunning setting paired with warm service makes every visit memorable. A true local gem for anyone wanting an authentic taste of Mauritius.

Sun and Sea Beach restaurant -

This is one of the best local places to grab food and drinks while enjoying Belle Mare public beach. It gets busy, as there’s not much else around, but you can book ahead to secure a spot. Hours are limited — 12:30 to 4:30pm, with last orders before 4pm — but the quality makes it worth planning for. The crispy squid was a go‑to snack most days, ideal for keeping energy up between dips in the sea.

The West coast in Flic en Flac’s is lined with an excellent mix of restaurants, cafés, and lively bars, giving visitors plenty of choice whether they’re after local flavours, relaxed beachside dining, or evening cocktails.

The full selection can be viewed on Tripadvisor, but I have shared some of my personal favourites.
